Job Description

Animal Care Assistant Job description We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Animal Care Assistant. This position is perfect for someone with professional experience working with cats, who is self-motivated and thrives in a dynamic work environment. We seek a passionate and mission-driven Animal Care Assistant to support the daily operations of our nonprofit cat rescue. Essential Duties:
Maintain and clean kennels and provide fresh food and water. Provide companionship to the cats/kittens while cleaning Maintaining complete records on kennels and adhering to specifications for special feedings, medications, or isolation protocols. Prep for the next shift by ensuring all duties are completed by the end of the day, and essential items are restocked before the next shift, including linen and blankets, supplies, food, and litter. Assist in shelter maintenance, including washing, drying, and folding laundry, sweeping and mopping floors, and cleaning surfaces to maintain asepsis. Brush off cat perches and change linens as needed Beginning and end of shift checks of cats in each designated area. Report concerns and/or changes in health or behavior for cats/kittens to veterinary staff and/or supervisor.
Qualifications:
Previous animal care experience is strongly preferred. Must be able to lift 40 lbs. Must be able to bend with knees and stand/walk for long periods of time. Must be able to handle cats, including those that might be sick or scared Ability to handle physical workload Must be detail-oriented, adaptable to change, and able to work in a fast paced environment Part-to-full time availability, including weekends. Must have reliable transportation Gotta love cats! Working with volunteers who love cats Ability to work well independently and make appropriate decisions within guidelines.
Education / Certifications

Licenses:
High school diploma/GED Valid driver's license required Preferred completion of a veterinary assistant program OR experience at a veterinary hospital, rescue, or clinic.
Knowledge / Skills
/
Abilities:
Able to speak, read, write, and understand English. Knowledge of Spanish is helpful but not required. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary. Proficient with or able to learn/use veterinary software.
Other:
Regular attendance, punctuality, and access to reliable transportation are required. Work Environment /
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be comfortable working with and around cats, as this is a cat-only rescue. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold, and temperature changes; occasional wet floors, animal noises, odor, and dander.
