Job Description

ASL Direct Support Professional Company Overview We are a mission-driven human services organization dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to live meaningful, self-directed lives in their communities. Our team is diverse, collaborative, and united by a shared commitment to dignity, inclusion, and respect. We value American Sign Language (ASL) as a primary mode of communication for many of the people we support and for members of our team. Whether you are hearing or deaf/hard of hearing, your ASL skills can have a direct and lasting impact here. The Opportunity As an ASL Direct Support Professional, you will do far more than provide daily assistance. You will be a mentor, teacher, guide, and advocate for individuals with I/DD, helping them build independence, confidence, and strong connections in their communities. This is a hands-on role where you will use ASL every day, support people in real-life situations, and see the impact of your work immediately. If you have experience as a caregiver, home health aide, PCA, CNA, teacher's aide, youth mentor, or in a similar helping role, this is a chance to grow your skills and build a meaningful long-term career. What You'll Do Support individuals with I/DD in their daily lives, using ASL to communicate clearly, respectfully, and consistently. Accompany and assist clients with community access, such as errands, social outings, recreational activities, and appointments. Provide personal care and assistance with daily living tasks as needed, following individual support plans and safety guidelines. Coordinate and support medical and other essential appointments, helping individuals understand information and communicate their needs. Encourage and facilitate positive peer interactions, social relationships, and skills-building through structured and informal activities. What Success Looks Like Within your first few months, you build trusting, respectful relationships with the individuals you support, consistently using ASL and person-centered practices. Clients you work with increase their participation in community activities, social events, or recreational programs that reflect their interests and goals. Daily routines, personal care, and appointments run smoothly, with accurate documentation and effective communication with your team and supervisors. You actively contribute to a supportive, team-oriented environment by sharing observations, problem-solving challenges, and collaborating to improve support plans. What We're Looking For Ability to communicate in American Sign Language (ASL); open to both hearing and deaf/hard of hearing candidates. Good judgment, problem-solving skills, and the ability to stay calm, patient, and compassionate in a variety of situations. Strong communication and team collaboration abilities, including giving and receiving feedback and following established protocols. A passion for helping others, a willingness to learn and grow, and reliability in meeting commitments, including transportation and schedule needs. Compensation and Benefits $20.00
