Job Description

Schedule:
Monday - Friday The Life Skills Advocate (LSA) provides overall support to empower participants to achieve their optimal independence. The LSA is responsible for providing direct support, positive direction, and assistance to participants in accordance with program policies, procedures, and DDS standards. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with daily activities of life skills by monitoring and implementing each participant's daily activity schedule, teaching safety awareness, documenting each participant progress in alignment with Individual support plan (ISP) goals, and participating in community engagement activities and/or program location-based activities. Finally, the Life Skills Advocate is responsible for facilitating all necessary actions to achieve success for program participants and realize the Mission and Vision of OSBI. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Must have or be able to obtain

State background check Experience working with individuals with intellectual disability or a similar population requiring attention and compassionate care Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills Ability to gain knowledge and implement practices that show attention to compassionate and safe supervision of individuals with intellectual disability. Good driving record must pass CA DMV Employer Pull Notice Responsibilities Deliver program curriculum based on individual needs of program participants in accordance with ISP goals and objectives by implementing daily schedule provided by supervisor. Transport program participants safely in a company vehicle to/from Community integration Life Skills program for community-based activities as well as transportation to and from program. Consider safety and proactive supervision when supporting participants by assisting and accompanying them on campus or community activities. Report and document concise daily participant's progress including completing daily data collection logs, communication books, etc. Act as an advocate for Participant(s)/OSBI when in contact with Parents/Guardians/Support Coordinator regarding updates on Participant activities throughout the day. Model and demonstrate appropriate behavior management techniques with program participants. Project a professional, knowledgeable, and capable image consistent with the One Step Beyond mission in public interactions. Consider the welfare, growth, and development of program participants as a top priority in all support and instructional activities. Communicate effectively and respectfully with participants and parents/guardians to address concerns, maintain positive relationships, and serve as an advocate for participants and a resource for parents/guardians. Encourage other LSA's to work together to support the team in all direct service practices, including participant's safety measures, curriculum delivery support, positive behavior support, and progress report accuracy. Provide information to Supervisor/ Director to advocate for change in ISP goals/objective, requests of new services (when needed). Handle difficult situations with a positive attitude by actively seeking problem resolution, creative solutions, and program and organizational enhancements to ensure individual and team performance as well as program effectiveness.
