Direct Support Professional (DSP),
Respite Program Reports To:

San Marcos CA (In-home and Community-Based Support)
Position Summary:
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a critical role in supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve greater independence and integrate into their community. DSPs provide one-on-one care, guidance, and assistance to help individuals engage in daily activities, improve their life skills, and maintain their safety and well-being. This role requires a compassionate, patient, and proactive individual who is dedicated to empowering others while promoting dignity and respect.
Available Shifts:
Monday-Friday:
Evenings (4:00pm-9pm), and Weekends (variable shifts between 7:00am-9:00pm)
Key Responsibilities:
Provide Personal Care Assistance:
Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), including but not limited to grooming, toileting, dressing, meal preparation, and hygiene.
Support Community Integration:
Facilitate participation in community activities such as social outings, appointments, and recreational events. Assist in
Skill Development:
Help clients develop and practice life skills such as cooking, budgeting, time management, and other activities that promote independence.
Behavioral Support:
Implement individualized behavioral support plans to promote positive behaviors and address challenging behaviors safely and effectively
Monitor Health and Safety:
Ensure the safety of individuals at all times, responding appropriately to medical and behavioral needs. Report any incidents or concerns according to the program's protocols.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of service delivery, including daily logs, incident reports, and other required documentation.
Communication:
Collaborate with families, caregivers, and other team members to share important information and ensure consistency in support. Attend team meetings and participate in case planning as needed.
Ensure Client Rights:
Promote the rights of clients by adhering to all relevant regulations and guidelines, including welfare and safety laws.
Crisis Management:
Be prepared to intervene in crisis situations and follow emergency procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of the client.
Continuous Improvement:
Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance skills and stay current with best practices in the field.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certifications or training in developmental disabilities, psychology, or related fields preferred. Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, preferably in a direct care role. Ability to assist individuals with physical and/or mobility needs and provide personal care support. Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with families, caregivers, and other team members. Basic knowledge of CPR and First Aid Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and use good judgment in various situations. Patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to respond to emergency situations swiftly and appropriately. Ability to perform manual tasks such as assisting with transfers, mobility, and personal care.
Working Conditions:
Work will be conducted both in the client's home and in community settings. Flexibility in working hours, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
