The Opportunity As an ASL Direct Support Professional, you will be a mentor, teacher, guide, and advocate for deaf, hard of hearing, and signing individuals with I/DD. This is a hands-on role where you will directly influence how people live, connect with their communities, and reach their personal goals. What You'll Do Build trusting relationships with individuals with I/DD using ASL to understand their goals, preferences, and daily needs. Support clients with community access, including transportation, outings, and participation in local activities that foster independence and inclusion. Provide personal care and assistance with daily living tasks in a respectful, dignified, and person-centered way. Accompany clients to medical appointments, helping them communicate with providers and follow through on care plans. Encourage healthy peer interactions and engagement in recreational activities that build social skills, confidence, and life skills. What Success Looks Like Within your first few months, you consistently use ASL to communicate effectively with clients and team members, building strong rapport and trust. Clients you support show measurable progress toward their individual goals in areas such as community participation, independence, and social engagement. You reliably follow schedules, documentation, and safety protocols, with clean audits and positive feedback from supervisors and families. You actively participate in training and team meetings, contribute ideas to improve services, and take on increasing responsibility as you grow in the role. What We're Looking For Proficiency in American Sign Language (hearing or deaf/hard of hearing) and a genuine desire to communicate in ASL throughout your workday. Sound judgment, problem-solving skills, and the ability to stay calm and supportive in changing or challenging situations. Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a collaborative mindset and respect for diverse backgrounds and abilities. At least 21 years of age, with reliable transportation, a valid CA Driver's License, ability to pass a background check, and a high school diploma or equivalent; prior human services or caregiving experience is a plus.
