Orange County Salary:
$35 Per Visit The hospice aide is a paraprofessional member of the interdisciplinary group who works under the supervision of a registered nurse and performs various services for a patient as necessary to meet the patient's personal needs and promote comfort. The hospice aide is responsible for observing the patient, reporting these observations, and documenting observations and care performed. The hospice aide will be assigned by a Registered Nurse in a manner that promotes quality, continuity, and safety of a patient's care.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
Responsibilities of the hospice aide include, but are not limited to: Performing personal care needs as assigned and attending to the patient's requests promptly. Report to the Case Manager if unable to perform a task. Providing ethical and respectful communication with patients and families, ensuring confidentiality. Meeting safety needs of the patient and using equipment properly (e.g., foot stools, side rails, oxygen). Giving personal care (baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, changing bed linen). Assisting in dressing and undressing patients. Planning and preparing meals, including shopping, as assigned. Assisting in feeding the patient. Taking and recording temperatures, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure when ordered and trained. Observing and caring for the patient's skin to prevent tissue breakdown. Reporting significant changes in condition and interpersonal issues to the Case Manager. Assisting in ambulation and exercise as instructed. Providing range of motion and transfers/positioning. Offering reminders for self-administered medications, per state regulations. Assisting with bedpans, urinals, and light laundry as assigned. Performing range of motion and simple procedures as ordered and trained. Providing respite for family/caregivers when appropriate. Keeping the patient's living area clean and orderly. Adhering to documentation, care procedures, and conduct standards. Participating in quality assessment and improvement activities. Respecting the patient's environment and needs.

Job Limitations:
The hospice aide will not perform nursing tasks such as administering medications, taking physician orders, or performing sterile techniques.
Position Qualifications:
Minimum Experience and Education:
Meets state training requirements. Minimum 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training, including 16 hours each of classroom and practical training. Ability to read/follow instructions and document care. Understanding of hospice philosophy and care for terminally ill. Satisfactory references. Self-directed; calm and secure around death/dying. Empathetic, tactful, hygienic, and patient.

Additional Requirements:
At least 18 years old Valid driver's license and insured, working vehicle Completion of a probationary period with documented competency

$35.00 per hour
