Direct Support Professional (DSP) Lead -
IL Location:
Adult IDD Residential Group Home Position Summary:
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) Lead is responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the group home while providing direct care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This role works in close collaboration with the Residential Services Coordinator to ensure a safe, structured, and person-centered environment. The DSP Lead provides guidance to direct care staff, helps oversee shift responsibilities, and ensures consistency in service delivery and compliance with all applicable policies and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the day-to-day operations of the group home, ensuring routines and schedules are followed Provide direct care and support to residents, including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), community involvement, and skill development Serve as a shift lead by guiding, supporting, and mentoring DSP staff on duty Assist with staff supervision, including assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and addressing immediate concerns during shifts Ensure proper implementation of Individual Support Plans (ISPs), behavior support plans, and care protocols Monitor documentation for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness (progress notes, data collection, incident reports) Communicate regularly with the Residential Services Coordinator regarding resident needs, staff performance, and operational concerns Assist in training new staff and reinforcing best practices Maintain a safe, clean, and organized home environment Ensure compliance with all state regulations, licensing requirements, and organizational policies
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant experience in IDD services preferred Minimum of 1-2 years experience in a residential or direct support setting Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience preferred Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills Ability to model professionalism and provide guidance to staff Valid driver's license and ability to meet background screening requirements
Work Environment & Expectations:
Hands-on role requiring both direct care and leadership responsibilities Ability to respond to behavioral or medical situations as needed Flexibility to work various shifts, including overnights, weekends and holidays
