Position Overview We are seeking a skilled, attentive, and compassionate female live-in caregiver for a female client with a history of seizure activity. The client is largely independent in feeding herself but requires comprehensive assistance with all other activities of daily living. As a live-in caregiver, you will reside in the client's home and be available to provide care, supervision, and companionship throughout the day and evening, with designated rest periods. Seizure awareness, calm crisis response, and strong observation skills are essential for this role. This is a deeply meaningful position for someone who is dedicated, dependable, and genuinely passionate about making a difference in another person's life every single day. Seizure Awareness & Safety — Key Responsibilities Given the client's history of seizure activity, the caregiver must be prepared to respond calmly and competently to seizure episodes.
Specific responsibilities include:
Seizure recognition — identifying signs of different seizure types (tonic-clonic, absence, focal) Seizure first aid — positioning client safely, protecting from injury, timing the episode Post-seizure care (postictal phase) — providing comfort, monitoring recovery, and reassuring the client Emergency response — knowing when to call 911 (seizure lasting 5+ minutes, injury, no recovery) Seizure logging — documenting date, time, duration, type, and any triggers or post-event symptoms Trigger awareness — monitoring and helping minimize known triggers such as fatigue, stress, missed medications, or irregular sleep Environmental safety — ensuring the home is set up to minimize injury risk (padding, no sharp corners, bath safety) Medication adherence — ensuring anti-seizure medications are taken on time, every time Communication — promptly reporting any seizure activity to the care coordinator and family Seizure action plan — following the individualized plan provided by the client's medical team Full Duties & Services Personal Care & Hygiene The client can feed herself but requires assistance with all other personal care tasks: Bathing — full shower or bath assistance with seizure-safe bathing protocols Hair care — washing, drying, styling, and brushing Oral hygiene — brushing teeth, denture care if applicable, mouth rinse Grooming — shaving, eyebrow care, nail trimming and filing Dressing and undressing — selecting appropriate clothing and assisting with all dressing tasks Skin care — daily moisturizing, inspecting for rashes, sores, or skin breakdown Toileting assistance — assisting to and from the toilet, maintaining dignity at all times Incontinence care — managing any post-seizure incontinence with sensitivity and respect Perineal care — thorough cleansing to prevent infection Mobility & Physical Assistance Transfer assistance — helping client move from bed, chair, sofa, or other surfaces safely Ambulation support — assisting with walking, especially post-seizure when balance may be affected Fall prevention — close supervision during movement, especially in bathrooms and on stairs Positioning — ensuring proper body positioning when seated or resting Range of motion exercises — gentle exercises as directed by care plan or physician Post-seizure mobility support — assisting client who may be disoriented, weak, or fatigued after an episode Meal Preparation & Nutrition The client is able to feed herself; however, full meal preparation support is required: Meal planning — preparing balanced, nutritious meals per client preferences and any dietary guidelines Breakfast, lunch, and dinner preparation — cooking or assembling all daily meals Snack preparation — providing healthy snacks throughout the day Hydration monitoring — encouraging adequate fluid intake (dehydration can be a seizure trigger) Special dietary needs — adhering to any medically recommended diet (ketogenic diet is sometimes prescribed for seizure management) Kitchen cleanup — washing dishes, wiping surfaces, and maintaining a clean cooking environment Grocery coordination — tracking food supply levels and communicating needs to family or coordinator Medication Management Anti-epileptic drug (AED) administration reminders — ensuring medications are taken at the correct times daily Medication organization — setting up and managing pill organizer or blister packs Prescription tracking — monitoring medication supply and alerting family/coordinator when refills are needed Rescue medication — administering rescue medication (e.g., Diastat, Nayzilam) if trained and directed by care plan Side effect observation — watching for and reporting drowsiness, mood changes, or other AED side effects Documentation — logging all medications given and any missed doses Health Monitoring & Observation Vital signs monitoring — blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and oxygen saturation as directed Neurological observation — watching for unusual behavior, confusion, or warning signs (auras) preceding seizures Sleep monitoring — ensuring adequate, regular sleep (sleep deprivation is a major seizure trigger) Stress reduction support — helping maintain a calm, low-stress home environment Appointment coordination — assisting with scheduling and attending medical appointments (neurology, primary care) Health journaling — maintaining a daily log of client's mood, activity level, sleep, appetite, and any symptoms Reporting changes — immediately notifying care coordinator or family of any changes in condition Household Management & Light Housekeeping Daily tidying — keeping living spaces clean, organized, and clutter-free to reduce fall/injury risk Laundry — washing, drying, folding, and putting away clothing and bed linens Bed making and linen changes — maintaining fresh, clean bedding Bathroom cleaning — keeping bathroom sanitized and safe Vacuuming and mopping — maintaining clean floors throughout the home Trash removal — emptying and replacing trash and recycling Dishes and kitchen maintenance — keeping kitchen clean after all meals Errand assistance — pharmacy pickups, grocery runs, or other essential errands as needed Companionship & Emotional Support Daily companionship — engaging in meaningful conversation, activities, and shared interests Emotional support — providing reassurance, patience, and a positive presence, particularly after seizure episodes which can be frightening Recreational activities — TV, music, reading, crafts, puzzles, or other hobbies per client's interests Confidence building — encouraging independence in areas where the client is capable (such as self-feeding) Community engagement — accompanying client on safe outings or social visits as appropriate Mental health awareness — recognizing signs of depression or anxiety (common in clients with epilepsy) and reporting concerns Safety & Home Environment Seizure-proof environment — padding sharp corners, securing rugs, using non-slip mats, ensuring bathroom has grab bars Nighttime monitoring — remaining available and alert to nighttime seizure activity (SUDEP awareness) Emergency preparedness — knowing emergency contacts, nearest hospital, and client's full medical history Medical alert device — ensuring client wears medical ID at all times Safe bathing protocols — never leaving client unsupervised in the bath or shower Swimming/water safety — supervising any water-related activities strictly Documentation & Communication Daily care notes — completing thorough shift documentation using agency-provided tools Seizure diary — detailed logging of all seizure events for the client's neurologist Family communication — providing regular updates to family members as directed Care team coordination — communicating with Sacred Serenity Hearts care coordinator for guidance and support Requirements Female applicants only — client preference High school diploma or GED required Minimum 1-2 years of home care, CNA, or caregiving experience required Experience with seizure disorder clients strongly preferred Seizure first aid training (or willingness to complete training before start date) CPR and First Aid certified (or willingness to obtain before start) Comfortable with live-in care arrangements Valid ID and reliable transportation Physically capable of providing transfer and mobility assistance Excellent observation skills and ability to stay calm in medical situations Strong written communication for care documentation Preferred Qualifications CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certification Experience administering rescue medications (Diastat, Nayzilam, or similar) Familiarity with anti-epileptic medications and their side effects Experience with neurological conditions (epilepsy, stroke, TBI) Familiarity with Mobile Caregiver+ or similar EVV (Electronic Visit Verification) systems Bilingual skills a plus (English required) What We Offer Competitive live-in
