Job Description

A Step Forward Inc . is currently hiring Direct Support Professionals who are caring, energetic and have passion to help adults with intellectual disabilities lead meaningful, independent lives within their communities. The DSP is responsible for delivering direct services to adults at A Step Forward Community Day Service. We provide opportunities for our individuals to experience a meaningful life within the community. At A Step Forward CDS we promote individual's independence and personal choice. We provide person-centered programming focused on increasing communication, life skills, and learning social emotional skills. Various openings:
Full Time and Part Time positions available Monday - Friday 7:30am-430pm
Job Responsibilities:
Contribute to providing a stable environment that promotes respect and dignity, individual choice and input, and health and safety. Support Individuals to achieve his/her desires outlined in their individualized Personal Plan based on their unique needs and goals to increase individuals' independent functioning Assist, and coach individuals in pursuing personal hobbies and maintaining important relationships. Support individuals in increasing communication skills. Support individuals with mobility needs, walking and/or use of wheelchairs, walkers, canes, or other equipment. Encourage individuals to learn appropriate interpersonal interactions in social situations. Implements in-house and community activities, experiences, and/or leisure time based upon individuals' interests. Reinforces proper behavior, communication, language, interpersonal exchanges, etc. Performs health-related tasks including taking blood pressure, taking temperature, checking skin condition, positioning, administering medications, etc. Communicates well with coworkers, Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP), behavior analyst, nurse, and supervisory personnel regarding individuals. Completes required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Achieves competency or certification in first aid, CPR, Medication Administration and other required skills within prescribed timeframes.
  • Substitutes for absent co-workers in performance of assigned duties with direction from supervisor.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor to ensure day-to-day functioning.
  • Submits required documentation on time.
  • Attends all required trainings and meetings.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
Enjoy working with people. Ability to relate to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families. Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with others. 1 year of relevant experience preferred. High school diploma or equivalent ( Required) Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record ( Required ) Must be willing to undergo background checks Basic computer knowledge Able to work some Holidays during M-F Maintain the ability to stretch, push, pull, kneel, reach, twist, walk or stand up to 8 hours and able to perform the physical requirements of Safety Care. Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
