Job Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Personal Care Attendant (PCA) plays a crucial role in providing support and assistance to individuals who may have physical or cognitive limitations. The PCA is responsible for assisting clients with bathing, showering, grooming, and other personal hygiene tasks. They may also assist with light cleaning, cooking, running errands, and doing laundry. They also engage clients in activities like reading, talking, and playing games. The job description for a Personal Care Attendant can vary based on the specific needs of the client and includes the following responsibilities:REPORTABILITY

1. Assistance withDaily Activities:
Help clients with personal hygiene tasks such as bathing, grooming, and dressing. Assist with mobility, including transfers in and out of bed or wheelchair. Provide support with toileting and incontinence care. 2.Meal Preparation and Nutrition:
Plan and prepare nutritious meals based on the client's dietary requirements. Ensure that the client is receiving an appropriate and balanced diet. 3.Light Housekeeping:
Perform light housekeeping duties, including cleaning and maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for the client. Laundry and changing bed linens as needed. 4.Monitoring Health and Well-being:
Observe and report any changes in the client's physical or mental condition to healthcare professionals or family members. Take vital signs if required. 5.Companionship and Emotional Support:
Provide companionship and engage in social activities with the client. Offer emotional support and encouragement. 6.Transportation:
Assist with transportation for appointments, grocery shopping, or other essential errands. 7.Communication:
Maintain open and effective communication with the client, their family, and healthcare professionals. Keep accurate records of care provided and any changes in the client's condition. 8.Safety:
Ensure the safety of the client by identifying and minimizing potential hazards in the environment. Follow proper procedures for emergency situations. 9. Respect forDignity and Independence:
Encourage and support the client's independence and decision-making to the greatest extent possible. Treat clients with dignity, respect, and cultural sensitivity.QUALIFICATIONS
Successful completion if requested of agency drug screening Completion of required TB testing National/expanded current criminal background check as required by Indiana law/ISDH Proof of current car insurance and the ability to maintain reliable transportation Ability to understand and carry out directions or instructions and to keep simple records Able to use the telephone and communicate information regarding client concerns or occurrences Able to follow independently with minimal supervision agency policies and guidelines. Ability to move intermittently throughout the work day, inclusive of sitting, standing and bending, pushing, or pulling. Able to complete housekeeping and cooking duties Ability to relate to and work with the various personality styles, ill, disabled, and elderly Skilled in interpersonal relationships, reliable, trustworthy, honest, attentive, caring It's important for Personal Care Attendants to be compassionate, patient, and adaptable to the unique needs and preferences of each individual they are assisting. Additionally, PCA's will need to collaborate with other healthcare professionals and family members to ensure comprehensive care.PERSONAL CARE ATTENDANTS ALLOWABLE ACTIVITIES
Personal Care Attendant care includes all nonskilled ADL care as identified in the PCA, which includes but is not limited to the following: Provides assistance with personal care, which includes: Bathing, partial bathing , Oral hygiene, Hair care including clipping of hair , Shaving, Hand and foot care , Intact skin care, Application of cosmetics, Dressing. Provides assistance with mobility, which includes: Proper body mechanics, Transfers, Ambulation, Use of assistive devices. Provides assistance with elimination, which includes: Assistance with bedpan, bedside commode, toilet, Incontinent or involuntary care, Emptying urine collection and colostomy bags. Provides assistance with nutrition, which includes: Meal planning, Meal preparation, Clean-up. Provides assistance with safety, which includes: Use of the principles of health and safety in relation to self and individual, Identification and elimination of safety hazards, Practicing health protection and cleanliness by appropriate techniques of hand washing, Waste disposal and household tasks, Reminding the participant to self-administer medications, Provides assistance with correspondence and bill paying, Transportation of individuals to nonmedical community activities.NOTE:
