Position Summary As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) you will play a pivotal role in supporting individuals with disabilities to lead meaningful lives within their communities. You will provide direct care and assistance to individuals in various settings, fostering their independence, promoting their well-being, and enhancing their quality of life. DSPs assist individuals in achieving their personal goals, maintaining independence, and participating fully in their communities while ensuring their health, safety, and well-being. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Key Responsibilities
  • Provide personalized support and assistance to individuals with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication management, and household tasks.
  • Foster positive relationships with individuals, families, and guardians, promoting effective communication and collaboration to meet the individual's needs and goals.
  • Implement person-centered plans and goals, ensuring the individual's preference, choices, and rights are respected and upheld.
  • Facilitate community integration and participation in recreational, social, and vocational activities, promoting independence and inclusion.
  • Monitor and document individual progress, behaviors, and any significant changes, maintaining accurate records and reports as required.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies, following established protocols and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including healthcare professionals, therapists, and case managers, to coordinate comprehensive care and support services.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in the field of developmental disabilities.
Health and Safety Monitor the health and well-being of individuals served. Administer medications as trained and authorized. Follow all safety procedures, emergency protocols, and reporting requirements. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized living environment. Documentation Complete accurate and timely documentation, including daily progress notes and incident reports. Maintain confidentiality of individual and organizational information. Report significant changes, concerns, or incidents to supervisors promptly. Teamwork and Communication Communicate effectively with individuals served, family members, guardians, coworkers, and other professionals. Participate in team meetings and required trainings. Follow organizational policies and procedures. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Must be at least 18 years of age. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. If working in a licensed Winter Family Care setting, company vehicles are provided. Ability to pass required background studies. Ability to complete required training and maintain certifications. Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred, but not required; we provide comprehensive training and support for new team members. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.
Compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting individuals with diverse needs and abilities. Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations. Commitment to person-centered services and positive support practices. Physical Requirements Ability to lift, transfer, and assist individuals as needed. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift. Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations. Work Environment This position operates in residential homes and community settings requires working evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts based on program needs. Benefits
