In this vital role, you will empower residents to achieve their highest level of independence, promote their well-being, and foster a safe, engaging environment. Your enthusiasm and commitment will make a meaningful difference in the lives of those you serve, ensuring they receive respectful, personalized care every day. This paid position offers an opportunity to work closely with individuals requiring assistance with daily activities and specialized care needs, including memory care and developmental disabilities. Responsibilities Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support using equipment like Hoyer lifts when necessary. Monitor residents' health by taking vital signs, observing patient conditions, and reporting any changes to healthcare professionals promptly. Support medication administration in accordance with care plans and HIPAA regulations to ensure safety and compliance. Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs while maintaining cleanliness in kitchen areas. Engage residents in social activities, recreational programs, and community outings to promote mental stimulation and socialization. Maintain a safe environment by adhering to infection control protocols, performing routine cleaning duties, and ensuring all safety standards are met. Document care activities accurately in resident records, including progress notes, incident reports, and updates to care plans. Assist with mobility using equipment such as Hoyer lifts or resident's personal assistive devices; perform heavy lifting as required for resident transfers or repositioning. Observe residents' behavior and cognitive status—particularly those with dementia or Alzheimer's—to provide appropriate support and alert team members of any concerns. Collaborate with nursing staff, social workers, families, and other healthcare providers to deliver holistic care aligned with each resident's needs. Skills Proven experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home & community care settings. Strong knowledge of patient observation techniques and monitoring vital signs accurately. Familiarity with Alzheimer's care, dementia management, memory care strategies, and working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism. Ability to perform CPR and first aid confidently; certifications preferred but not required at hire. Experience with medication administration following prescribed protocols while maintaining HIPAA confidentiality. Skilled in caregiving tasks such as assisting with ADLs, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and cleaning duties. Excellent communication skills for engaging residents empathetically and collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Physical stamina for heavy lifting tasks; ability to stand for extended periods; comfortable working in fast-paced environments requiring quick adaptability. Knowledge of home health practices and hospice or end-of-life care is a plus. Demonstrated patience, compassion, and respect for individuals' dignity regardless of cognitive or physical challenges. Join us as a Direct Support Professional if you're passionate about making a positive impact through dedicated caregiving! Your energy will inspire independence while your detailed attention ensures safety and comfort for every individual you serve.
