Job Description

Overview Position Summary The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides individualized support services to persons receiving Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) under Minnesota 245D standards. Services are delivered in the person's own residence and focus on helping the individual maintain independence, develop skills, achieve personal goals, and participate fully in community life while ensuring health, safety, and dignity. The DSP implements support plans, coordinates with team members, and provides direct assistance according to the individual's assessed needs and service plan. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerson-Centered Support Provide individualized support according to the person's Coordinated Services and Supports Plan (CSSP), Addendum, and Individual Service Plan (ISP). Respect and promote the individual's rights, preferences, choices, culture, and personal goals. Support individuals in making informed decisions and exercising self-determination. Daily Living Skills Training and Support Assist, teach, and monitor individuals in areas including: Personal hygiene and grooming Meal planning, preparation, and nutrition Household management and cleaning Laundry and clothing care Medication reminders or administration as authorized Budgeting and money management Scheduling and attending appointments Transportation and community navigation Community Integration Support participation in community activities, employment, education, volunteering, and recreational opportunities. Encourage development of natural supports and meaningful relationships. Assist with transportation when required. Qualifications Required Minimum age of 18 years. High school diploma or GED preferred. Ability to pass required background studies. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record (if transportation is required). Ability to complete required 245D and agency-specific training. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and maintain professional boundaries. Preferred Experience supporting individuals with disabilities, mental health needs, brain injuries, or other special needs populations. CPR/First Aid certification. Physical Requirements Ability to lift, transfer, or assist individuals as required by service plans. Ability to bend, reach, stand, walk, and perform household tasks. Ability to respond quickly during emergencies. Work Environment Services are provided in the individual's private residence and community settings. Work schedules may include days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts as needed. The DSP's primary responsibility is to support individuals in achieving greater independence, community inclusion, health, safety, and quality of life while honoring their choices and rights.
Pay:
$17.00 - $21.00 per hour
