Job Description

Direct Support Professional (DSP) -
Job Description Position Summary:
A Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides care, guidance, and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. DSPs help people live as independently as possible by assisting with daily living activities, promoting social engagement, ensuring health and safety, and supporting personal goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist individuals with daily living skills (e.g., cooking, cleaning, hygiene, dressing, and personal care). Support community involvement by accompanying individuals to appointments, recreational activities, work, or volunteer opportunities. Encourage and support individuals in achieving personal goals and developing skills for greater independence. Administer medications and follow medical protocols as directed. Document services, progress notes, incidents, and other required records accurately and timely. Promote health, safety, dignity, and respect for each individual. Provide transportation when needed. Use positive behavior support strategies to encourage appropriate social interactions. Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, families, and other professionals involved in care.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED (some employers may require additional certifications). Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (if transporting individuals). Ability to pass background checks and required training (CPR, First Aid, medication administration, etc.). Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills. Compassion, reliability, and a genuine commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities.
Work Environment:
May involve working in private homes, group homes, day programs, or community settings. Requires flexibility for shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Physical requirements may include lifting, assisting with mobility, and responding to emergencies.

Direct Support Professionals empower individuals with disabilities to live meaningful, self-directed lives while ensuring their well-being, inclusion, and independence.

$15.50 - $16.75 per hour
