This role is ideal for someone who enjoys group activities, community outings, field trips, and hands-on engagement. DSPs provide critical support and care to individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities, helping them lead safe, fulfilling, and independent lives at home and in the community. You will work directly with residents or clients, supporting their goals, personal development, and daily living needs. This role may involve flexible, activity-based shifts depending on scheduled activities and program needs. Key Responsibilities Personal Care & Daily Living Support Assist clients with grooming, hygiene, bathing, dressing, toileting, and mobility Support meal preparation, feeding, and dietary monitoring Health & Medication Administer prescribed medications (after completing required training) Monitor and document health-related changes or concerns Attend and support clients during medical and therapy appointments Behavioral & Emotional Support Follow individualized behavior support and care plans Provide guidance in social skills, coping strategies, and emotional regulation Respond appropriately to crisis situations and de-escalate as needed Community Engagement & Life Skills Encourage participation in recreational, educational, and social activities Support client independence in the community (e.g., shopping, public transit, volunteering) Lead and support clients during group activities, field trips, community outings, and program events Promote engagement, teamwork, and confidence in community settings Documentation & Communication Maintain accurate, timely records of daily activities, incidents, and progress notes Communicate effectively with supervisors, case managers, family members, and other team members Qualifications High School Diploma or GED (required) Prior experience in caregiving, behavioral health, human services (preferred) Valid New Jersey driver's license with a clean driving record Must pass criminal background check, drug screening, and health screenings Ability to lift, transfer, and assist clients as needed (training provided) Key Skills & Attributes Compassion, patience, and strong work ethic Good communication and interpersonal skills Ability to follow instructions and documentation requirements Flexibility with schedule, especially evenings/weekends Energetic, creative, outgoing, and comfortable leading group activities and community outings Enjoys working in dynamic, active, and outdoor environments Benefits We offer a supportive work environment with opportunities for professional growth.
