SUMMARY An employer is seeking a dependable and compassionate Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide contracted services under the New Mexico Developmental Disabilities (DD) Waiver. This is a 1099 contractor position. The DSP will support individuals with disabilities in achieving goals outlined in their Individual Service Plans (ISPs), promote independence, and ensure health and safety in accordance with New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) / Developmental Disabilities Supports Division (DDSD) regulations. This role focuses on helping individuals learn, explore, and actively engage in their community, with an emphasis on teaching what resources, opportunities, and services are available to individuals with disabilities. Work may include community-based support, skill-building, and daily living assistance. Work schedules are flexible and coordinated between the family and the DSP. Training will be provided; however, approximately 12 months of related experience is preferred.
EXAMPLES OF JOB DUTIES
  • Provide direct support services to individuals with developmental disabilities in home and/or community settings.
  • Assist individuals in achieving goals outlined in their Individual Service Plans (ISPs).
  • Support individuals in accessing and participating in community activities, resources, and programs.
  • Teach and encourage independent living skills, social skills, and daily routines.
  • Promote inclusion and meaningful participation within the community.
  • Monitor and ensure the health, safety, and well-being of individuals served.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and service records in compliance with DDSD requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with families, case managers, and support teams.
  • Transport individuals to appointments, activities, or community events as needed.
  • Complete required trainings and follow all program guidelines and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed in a combination of home and community-based settings. Duties may involve transporting individuals, participating in community activities, and assisting with daily living tasks. The position may require standing, walking, bending, and light lifting. The DSP must be comfortable working in various environments and maintaining a flexible schedule based on individual needs. QUALIFICATIONS
    Education:
    High school diploma or GED required
      Experience:
      Approximately 12 months of related experience preferred
      • Must meet all New Mexico DD Waiver DSP requirements, including: CPR/First Aid Certification Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation (ANE) Training Person-Centered Planning Training HIPAA Compliance Training DDSD-approved training modules (Therap or Relias, depending on agency)
      • Valid New Mexico driver's license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance required
      • Ability to pass: NM DOH Caregiver Criminal History Screening (CCHSP) Required DDSD background checks
      • Ability to complete all required initial and ongoing trainings
