What is Self Direction? Self-Direction each person being supported has a budget of funds provided by Medicaid and OPWDD that can be allocated to services that support their health, safety, and independence including Self-Hired Staffing. When someone self-hires their staff, Wildwood acts as a co-supervisor with the individual and their natural supports (if applicable) to choose a staff, their rate of pay, and when they want them to work based on what can fit into their individual budget. They do the interviewing, so it is up to them to choose who they want to hire. Who is Wildwood? Wildwood Programs is a proud provider of educational, residential, employment, and other community-based supports to people with disabilities and their families. We hire those dedicated to making a difference in people's lives. What services does Self Direction provide? Community Habilitation (Com Hab): This is a goal-based service. Each individual who has Com Hab works with their circle of support to determine goals that they want to work on, and a member of their team creates a document called a Staff Action Plan that lists each goal and how staff can support the person in that goal. The self directed staff clock in and out in real time (per Medicaid regulation) and complete notes on goals at the end of the shift, they must be entered no later than the end of the following day. This is usually community-based, but if people have goals that can be worked on in their home, that is fine as well. Mileage and activity reimbursement related to goals may be included if the person's individual budget allows for it. Respite This is just a break for the caregiver. It can be provided in-home or in the community but your basic responsibility is to ensure the person is safe and having fun. No notes or goals for this one, you just need to clock in and out in real time (per Medicaid regulation).
