We're hiring Part-time Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) across several programs: in-home and community-based, as well as center-based, to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) lead independent, fulfilling lives. Positions range from entry-level to more experienced roles .
About the DSP role:
Support people with activities of daily living and personal care, community integration, and skills training. Teach independent living and social skills through hands-on support. Provide encouragement, safety, and behavior management in both home, community, and center-based settings. Work one-on-one or in group environments to promote growth, independence, and skills development.
Requirements:
DSP/Resource Center Counselor (Crisis Resource Center): Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience ,
- or•high school diploma or equivalent and 4 years of related experience•or•Satisfactory combination of education, experience and/or training as authorized by START/NCSS and/or appropriate State regulatory agency (e.
g. OPWDD, etc.) required. DSP 2 (in-home and community habilitation): High school diploma or equivalent preferred ; prior I/DD or Human Services experience highly preferred . DSP 1 (in-home/community respite): High school diploma or equivalent preferred , personal or professional experience in a care or support role preferred . Must be willing to travel within assigned region(s) as needed. Compassion, reliability, and a desire to make a positive impact are essential. Excellent communication skills (reading, writing, speaking) and have basic technology skills to document observations and monitor progress. Comfort with assisting people with ADLs (activities of daily living) like bathing, dressing, grooming, cooking, and traveling. Ability to participate in the 5 day NYS Mandated OPWDD initial training during normal business hours (9am-5pm) upon hire. Tuberculosis test is required before the start date. Ability to meet essential physical demands of position including frequent walking, sitting, standing, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching with hands and arms, pushing individuals in wheelchairs; lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds on occasion; having the physical capacity to work with and implement emergency interventions as per the person's Behavior Support Plan if/as needed, including lifting/moving individuals of any weight with or without assistance of equipment and/or other staff .
