Job Description

Overview The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a crucial role in providing assistance and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. This position involves working closely with clients to enhance their quality of life and promote independence while ensuring their safety and well-being. The DSP will engage in various activities that foster personal growth, social interaction, and skill development. Duties Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management (if authorized). Monitor and document clients' overall health status, ensuring adherence to the Individual Service Plan (ISP). Provide companionship and emotional support, encouraging socialization and participation in community activities. Assist with promoting client's independence and self-sufficiency, as needed. Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients by adhering to hygiene standards and organizational policies. Collaborate with healthcare professionals, family members, and other support staff to coordinate care and address any concerns. Assist in patient monitoring to identify any changes in behavior or health that may require attention. Skills Must be able to read and write by hand in English. Experience with developmentally disabled individuals in the home setting is preferred. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure client confidentiality is maintained at all times. Ability to perform first aid and respond effectively to emergencies as they arise. Valid and active CPR certification required. Ability to recognize changes that may indicate health issues is preferred. Strong organizational skills for maintaining accurate records of client documentation. Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients, families, and team members effectively. A compassionate demeanor with a genuine interest in helping individuals with developmental disabilities achieve their goals.
