Job Description

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) II supports patient care by ensuring comfort and safety, following the model of care at TCH, which emphasizes collaboration between patients, families, and healthcare teams. Care is culturally sensitive and age-appropriate, and all duties are delegated by a Registered Nurse according to Ohio Board of Nursing guidelines. PCA II may also use critical thinking to escalate concerns as needed.
Clinical:
Perform clinical tasks assigned by the RN, adhering to Ohio Board of Nursing delegation guidelines. PCA II is also trained in EKGs, ostomy care, and obtaining urine specimens from a Foley catheter. Maintain patient confidentiality. 25%
Leadership & Accountability:
Demonstrate key behavioral competencies such as effective communication, adaptability, teamwork, and personal accountability. Participate in unit councils/committees and process improvement initiatives. Coach and mentor peers, and support candidates during interviews. 25%
Environment and Safety :
Ensure patient and unit safety, identify potential hazards, and escalate concerns appropriately. 20%
Comfort:
Provide patient comfort and hygiene, anticipating needs and documenting according to policy. 20%
Communication:
Orient patients and families to the hospital and services, share unit updates, and promote positive communication within the team.
