Position Summary The Direct Support Professional (DSP) Specialist provides direct care and supportive services to individuals with developmental disabilities in accordance with Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) standards and agency policies. This as-needed position supports individuals in achieving greater independence, community inclusion, personal growth, and daily living success while ensuring health, safety, dignity, and respect at all times. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provide direct care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities in home and community settings Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and meal preparation Administer medications and document according to DODD and agency guidelines Support individuals with community integration, transportation, recreational activities, and social engagement Implement Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and behavior support plans as directed Maintain accurate daily documentation, incident reports, medication records, and progress notes Monitor individuals' health, safety, and emotional well-being and report concerns promptly Promote independence, self-advocacy, and person-centered care Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations Attend required trainings, staff meetings, and continuing education programs Respond appropriately to emergencies and crisis situations following agency procedures Maintain flexibility and availability to accept shifts as needed by the agency Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred Ability to pass background check and required screenings Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain Must complete all required DODD trainings and certifications Skills & Abilities Strong communication and interpersonal skills Compassionate, patient, and dependable Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong organizational and documentation skills Ability to adapt to varying schedules and client needs Work Environment Residential homes, community settings, and day program environments Flexible, as-needed scheduling including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts as assigned Mission of the Role To empower individuals with developmental disabilities to live meaningful, independent, and fulfilling lives while receiving quality, person-centered support through compassionate and professional care.
Job Summary Pay:
$17.00 - $18.00 per hour
