Job Description

Overview:
McElvain Homes is hiring Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) for our Adult Day Services Program. This position focuses on creating a positive, engaging, and supportive daytime environment for adults with developmental disabilities. DSPs in our Day Program help individuals build independence, social skills, confidence, and community involvement through activities, recreation, life skills development, and meaningful daily experiences. This is a Monday-Friday daytime position. No nights, weekends, or holiday shifts.
Responsibilities:
Create a positive, fun, and inclusive environment that encourages social interaction and engagement. Assist individuals with developing life skills such as communication, cooking, hygiene, organization, and community participation. Encourage independence while providing support tailored to each individual's needs and goals. Support individuals in participating in daily activities, recreational opportunities, and community outings. Assist with activity planning, crafts, games, group activities, exercise, and other structured programming. Provide medication administration as assigned and document according to agency procedures. Monitor individuals for safety, well-being, and behavioral or health-related changes. Maintain accurate documentation and communicate effectively with team members and supervisors. Assist individuals with mobility or transfers when needed using safe lifting techniques. Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming program environment.
Skills:
Compassionate, dependable, and patient with a positive attitude. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to build positive and supportive relationships with individuals of varying abilities. Ability to safely assist individuals with mobility and daily support needs when necessary. Experience in developmental disabilities services, healthcare, education, recreation, or caregiving is preferred but not required. Medication administration experience is a plus. High school diploma or equivalent required.
