A Direct Support Professional (DSP) supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by promoting independence, safety, well-being, and community inclusion. DSPs assist with daily living activities, implement Individual Support Plans (ISPs), and advocate for each individual's needs and goals. Responsibilities
' Provide personal care support including grooming, bathing, hygiene, toileting/incontinence care, feeding, mobility, and daily living activities according to the ISP.
' Support skill development, social engagement, community participation, appointments, family visits, and recreational activities.
' Maintain a clean and safe environment, secure medications and hazardous materials, and follow emergency procedures.
' Prepare meals, assist with budgeting and household purchases, and maintain household expectations.
' Communicate effectively with families, providers, and BTS staff and attend required meetings and trainings.
' Implement behavior support plans using positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques.
' Advocate for client rights, choices, and participation in care and community life.
' Complete accurate documentation including daily notes, progress reports, medical records, and incident reports.
' Participate in ongoing training and perform additional duties as assigned.
' Regular DSPs must work a minimum of 20 hours per month or 240 hours annually to maintain active employment status. Qualifications
' High school diploma or equivalent required.
' Experience supporting individuals with IDD, caregiving, healthcare, or social services preferred.
' Valid driver's license, insurance, and reliable transportation if transporting clients.
' Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications including First Aid/CPR, Mandatory Abuse Reporter training, and OIS if applicable.
' Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and basic computer skills.
' Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and agency policies.
' Ability to pass background checks and work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
' Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, assist with transfers, and respond appropriately to emergencies or behavioral incidents using approved intervention techniques. Work Environment & Benefits
