Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and skilled Direct Support Professional to provide one-on-one support to our 13-year-old child with cerebral palsy. This role involves assisting with daily routines, mobility, communication, and participation in educational and recreational activities, while fostering independence and emotional well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
Personalized Support:
Assist with daily living tasks including dressing, feeding, hygiene, and transitions, tailored to the child's physical and developmental needs.
Communication Facilitation:
Support the child's expressive communication supporting operated AAC Eye Gaze communication system, and partial verbal and non-verbal communication needs.
Educational Access:
Collaborate with caregivers and school staff to ensure accommodations are implemented and learning materials are accessible.
Mobility & Safety:
Provide physical support for transfers, positioning, and ambulation using adaptive equipment; ensure safety during all activities.
Engagement & Play:
Facilitate structured and unstructured play, social interaction, and community participation aligned with the child's interests and therapy goals.
Documentation & Collaboration:
Maintain accurate daily notes and communicate observations to caregivers and therapists to support goal tracking and care coordination.
Qualifications:
Experience working with children with physical disabilities (preferred, not required). Familiarity with AAC systems and adaptive equipment (preferred, not required). Ability to facilitate and support physical transfers safely. Strong communication skills and a patient, empathetic demeanor. Background check required.
