DSP (Community & Employment)

JOB SUMMARY

As a Direct Support Professional (Community), you will provide hands-on support to adults with disabilities in community-based settings and employment environments. This includes assisting individuals in building independence, developing job skills, and engaging meaningfully in their communities. This role goes beyond care, you will act as a coach, mentor, and support system helping individuals work toward real-life goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide respectful, person-centered support at all times Assist with daily living needs as necessary during community activities Implement ISP goals and behavioral support strategies Monitor and document progress, behaviors, and outcomes accurately Ensure health, safety, and well-being in all environments Maintain professionalism when interacting with employers, families, and team members Support individuals in accessing and engaging in community activities Assist with transportation and navigation within the community Encourage decision-making, independence, and personal choice Provide on-site job coaching and support at community job placements Support communication between the individual and employer when appropriate Help individuals build workplace behavior, reliability, and confidence Gradually fade support as independence increases Requirements Must be at least 18 years old High School Diploma or GED Valid driver's license with reliable transportation Ability to pass background checks and drug screening Strong written and verbal communication skills Preferred Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work independently in community settings Professional presentation and behavior in public/workplace environments Patience, adaptability, and problem-solving skills A genuine interest in helping others succeed Experience in human services, job coaching, or education Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities Familiarity with employment supports or vocational training
