In this vital role, you'll provide personalized support to individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, and other special needs, fostering independence and enhancing their quality of life. Your expertise in communication and care will help create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment where clients can thrive. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to build rewarding relationships while developing your skills in behavioral health, caregiving, and community support. Duties Provide direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities and autism, assisting with daily activities and promoting independence. Use American Sign Language fluently to communicate effectively with clients, ensuring their needs are understood and met. Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, dressing, meal preparation, and medication administration when necessary. Implement behavior management strategies to support positive behaviors and address challenging situations with patience and professionalism. Support clients in engaging with their community through outings, social activities, and recreational events. Collect data on client progress and behaviors to inform care plans and communicate updates to team members. Maintain accurate documentation of care provided, behavioral observations, and any incidents or concerns. Requirements Proven experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, or related conditions in home or community settings. Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) with the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately using sign language. Knowledge of special education principles, behavior management techniques, and behavioral health practices. Experience assisting with ADLs, medication administration, and implementing care plans tailored to individual needs. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for community outings or appointments. Ability to handle challenging behaviors professionally while maintaining a positive attitude. Prior experience in caregiving roles such as home & community care or social work is highly valued.
