Full-time, PRN Focus:
Traditional Birthkeeping, Physical Support, & Emotional Resilience Role Overview:
Rio Pecos Medical Associates is seeking "Traditional Birthkeepers" who balance the "heart" of doula work with the "head" of a professional care provider. This role provides 1:1 continuity of care throughout the reproductive timeline: Preconception, Pregnancy, Labor/Birth, Postpartum, and Bereavement. You must be capable of maintaining radical patient autonomy within a high-volume medical environment.
Core Responsibilities:
    Traditional Birthkeeping:
Provide continuous, evidence-based physical and emotional support during labor, utilizing traditional comfort measures and advocacy.
      Clinical Discernment:
Possess a thorough understanding of medical interventions to help patients navigate life-saving care without losing their sense of autonomy.
        Bereavement Support:
Act as a primary support person for cases of pregnancy and infant loss (PAIL), providing compassionate, grounded care.
          Preconception Support:
Act as a primary support person for individuals trying to conceive or avoiding conception by educating on Fertility Awareness, or Cycle tracking.
            On-Call Rotation:
Maintain 24/7 availability for on-call labor rotations and immediate bereavement call-outs.
            Essential Mindset:
              Autonomy Over Ideology:
Personal beliefs must never be projected onto the client; we serve all families and birth choices equally.
                Collaborative Advocacy:
We advocate through education and professional communication, not adversarial relationships with medical staff.
                  Secondary Trauma Resilience:
Ability to maintain professional boundaries during loss or emergency interventions without becoming a "second patient". Operational Reliability & Team-Based Care
                    Collaborative On-Call Coverage:
Doulas operate within a collective rotation to ensure 24/7 availability for labor and immediate bereavement support; proactive, transparent communication with the team is an essential function of this role.
                      Radical Dependability:
Our model relies on mutual trust; doulas must be fully dependable in their scheduled rotations to ensure no patient is left without support during a transition or emergency. We are trusted with our patient's most vulnerable moments and we must prioritize this sacred responsibility.
                        Self-Directed Time Management:
Doulas are expected to manage their personal schedules and administrative responsibilities (including documentation and appointment prep) independently, maintaining high performance without the need for micromanagement from the Lead Doula.
                          Personal Support Systems:
Candidates must have a pre-established personal support system (e.g., reliable childcare, transportation, and communication) to allow for immediate, professional response during on-call shifts.
                          Mandatory Credentials:
                            Certification:

Current CPR/BLS and HIPAA Awareness training or an ability to obtain it during training.
