Job Description

Overnight Direct Support Professional (DSP) Job Overview We are seeking a dependable and compassionate Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide overnight support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. This role is essential to the overall success of the program, ensuring a safe, calm environment overnight while preparing individuals and the home for a smooth and effective day shift. Candidates must be able to work independently, remain alert, and respond quickly to any needs or emergencies. Shift Schedule Overnight shifts vary based on residence needs and may include: 11:00 PM

  • 8:00 AM 1:00 AM
  • 9:00 AM
  • Key Responsibilities
  • Provide overnight supervision and support in accordance with individualized service plans.
Conduct safety checks on all individuals at least every hour and document appropriately. Remain awake, alert, and responsive for the entire shift. Assist with overnight personal care, including toileting, hygiene, repositioning, and responding to call as needed. Monitor for changes in behavior or health and respond as needed. Support individuals who wake during the night and assist them in returning to rest. Maintain a clean, quiet, and safe environment. Complete housekeeping tasks such as laundry, washing dishes, and maintaining common areas. Check household inventory and report or restock supplies as needed. Prepare lunches and other items for the following day as necessary. Review and complete communication logs, documenting all overnight activity and incidents. Assist with morning routines, including waking residents, supporting showering/dressing, and preparing breakfast as needed. Ensure all assigned tasks are completed prior to shift end to support an efficient and effective transition to day staff. Communicate clearly with incoming staff to ensure continuity of care. Follow all safety procedures and report Serious Incidents per policy.
  • Qualifications
  • Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities (or willingness to train). Ability to stay awake, alert, and work independently overnight. Strong attention to detail and documentation skills. Calm, reliable, and able to handle emergencies effectively. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word/Excel). Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Requirements
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
MANDT or TOVA training (or willingness to obtain). TB test required. Completion of DSP Orientation and all required ongoing trainings.

Must pass DBHDS and Central Registry background checks in accordance with 12 VAC §37.2-405. $15.50
