Job Title:
Direct Support Professional (DSP)•Behavioral /Crisis Support Location:
Danville, VA If you have experience maintaining safety, managing high-stress situations, or supporting individuals during behavioral crisis, this position may be a great fit. We are seeking Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to support adults with developmental disabilities in a structured residential program. Some individuals may be non-verbal and may display high levels of aggression or challenging behaviors during moments of distress . Staff receive professional training in crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques to help maintain safety for both staff and the individuals we support. Realistic Job Preview This position can be physically and emotionally demanding. Some individuals we support may be non-verbal and may display high or intense behaviors , including verbal or physical aggression during times of distress. Staff are trained in approved crisis prevention and safety techniques, including the MANDT System and TOVA Crisis Intervention , to safely respond to these situations. Successful team members are patient, dependable, able to remain calm under pressure, and committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for the individuals we serve. This role is ideal for dependable individuals who remain calm under pressure, follow structured support plans, and work well as part of a team. Key Responsibilities Provide direct care and supervision in a residential setting Maintain a safe and structured environment for residents and staff Support individuals who may be non-verbal by using patience, observation, and alternative communication approaches Implement individualized behavioral support plans Respond to behavioral escalations using trained de-escalation techniques Assist with daily living tasks such as meals, hygiene, and activities Document behaviors, incidents, and progress accurately Support community outings and life-skills development Training Provided All staff receive professional training to safely manage behavioral situations, including: Training in the MANDT System for crisis prevention and de-escalation Training in TOVA Crisis Intervention (as applicable) Behavioral support plan implementation Incident documentation and reporting Ongoing coaching and refresher trainings Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Must be at least 18 years old Valid driver's license preferred Ability to pass background check and drug screening Experience in security, corrections, behavioral health, healthcare, or residential care is helpful but not required What Makes Someone Successful in This Role Ability to stay calm and professional during stressful situations Strong observation and communication skills Dependability and teamwork Willingness to learn behavioral support techniques and safety procedures Why Join Our Team Paid training and professional certifications Supportive team environment Opportunities for advancement in behavioral health and human services Meaningful work supporting individuals with complex needs Background & Compliance Requirements All candidates must successfully pass required background checks in accordance with standards set by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) . This includes criminal background screening and other compliance requirements necessary to work in licensed behavioral health and developmental disability support programs. Candidates must also be able to meet all training and certification requirements required for DBHDS-regulated programs.Job Types:
