Job Description
Overview We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and energetic Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support an individual with diverse needs in living a fulfilling and independent life. In this meaningful role, you will provide personalized, hands-on support to a resident in her natural home alongside her family, as well as within community settings. She is a high-functioning individual who is motivated to become an active and efficient part of her community. Your support will help her continue building independence, confidence, and meaningful connections. Your work will play a vital role in promoting her safety, well-being, dignity, and active participation in daily life. Through patience, respect, and proactive support, you will help create a positive and empowering environment that encourages independence and community engagement. Responsibilities Shift hours:
Monday-Wednesday 10:00 AM-7:00 PM; Thursday-Friday 08:00 AM-07:00 PM.Total hours:
49 hours per week (9 hours overtime after 40 hours). Provide transportation support by picking up the individual from her workplace Tysons Corner at 10:00 AM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays and safely transporting her home, ensuring supervision and support during transitions. Support the individual in building independence by providing structured choices, step-by-step guidance, and positive reinforcement during daily routines and activities, while encouraging active participation in decision-making. Assist with planning and participating in weekly community outings by supporting selection of preferred activities, preparation for outings, engagement with others, and safe navigation of community environments with appropriate supervision. Encourage and support the individual's interest in arts and crafts by facilitating creative activities, providing appropriate materials, and using these opportunities to build focus, self-expression, and confidence. Provide continuous supervision and safety support in both home and community settings, including reinforcing safety awareness, monitoring for potential risks, and ensuring protection from exploitation, especially during social and financial interactions. Assist in developing communication and social skills by encouraging clear expression, appropriate conversation, and positive interactions through modeling, prompting, and supportive feedback. Support the development of money management and time management skills, including supervised transactions, use of calendars or reminders, and following structured daily routines. Promote overall health and well-being by supporting safe eating habits, encouraging appropriate pacing during meals, assisting with hygiene and personal care as needed, and maintaining a structured, supportive environment. Skills Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in home and community-based settings, with a strong focus on promoting independence and person-centered care. Ability to provide structured support, including prompting, task breakdown, and positive reinforcement to assist with daily routines, skill-building, and decision-making. Strong understanding of community integration and ability to safely support individuals during outings, including transportation, supervision, and engagement in social environments. Ability to safely transport individuals, maintain supervision during transitions, and ensure adherence to safety protocols in both home and community settings. Effective communication skills, including the ability to model appropriate social interactions, support expressive communication, and collaborate with families and support teams. Knowledge of safety awareness strategies, including supervision, risk prevention, and protection from exploitation in community and financial situations. Ability to support skill development in money management, time management, and daily living routines using structured and hands-on teaching approaches. Compassionate, patient, and reliable with a strong commitment to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in achieving meaningful independence and community involvement. CPR/First Aid certification and a valid driver's license (with a clean driving record) are highly preferred.
