The Peninsula Community Care Center - 3.1 Newport News, VA Job Details Part-time $15 an hour 2 hours ago Qualifications Driver's License Meal preparation Direct support Adaptability In-home experience Full Job Description Job Summary Join our dedicated team as a Weekend Direct Support Professional, working overnight shifts from 7pm to 7am on Saturdays and Sundays. In this vital role, you will provide compassionate, personalized care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, including autism and other special needs. Your energetic and proactive approach will empower those you serve to live fulfilling, independent lives within their homes and communities. This position offers an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference while developing your skills in behavioral health, care management, and communication. Duties Offer direct support to individuals with disabilities, assisting with daily living activities such as grooming, meal preparation, and personal hygiene (ADLs). Implement behavior management strategies to promote positive behaviors and emotional well-being. Facilitate participation in community outings, appointments, and social activities to foster independence and community engagement. Collect and document data related to individual progress, behaviors, medication administration, and service delivery for reporting purposes. Assist with medication administration following proper protocols and safety guidelines. Maintain a safe environment by adhering to health and safety standards, including driving clients safely to destinations when required. Experience Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism is highly preferred. Knowledge of special education principles and behavioral health practices is advantageous. Experience in home and community care settings demonstrates your ability to adapt to diverse environments. Strong communication skills are essential for effective interaction with clients, families, and team members. Familiarity with caregiving tasks such as assisting with ADLs, medication management, and behavior support strategies. Ability to document data accurately for progress tracking and compliance purposes. Valid driver's license and safe driving record are required for transportation responsibilities.
