Job Description

PRN Direct Support Professional (DSP) Richmond Residential Services, Inc. (RRSI) Flexible Schedule | $18.00 Per Hour | Shift Differential | PRN Shift Incentive Position Summary The PRN Direct Support Professional (DSP) serves as an important member of the RRSI staffing team by providing flexible coverage for staffing shortages, employee absences, vacations, and other operational needs across our residential and supervised living programs. PRN staff play a critical role in maintaining quality services and supporting the individuals we serve while helping to reduce overtime and strengthen staffing stability throughout the organization. This position is ideal for experienced caregivers, students, retirees, or individuals seeking a flexible work schedule while making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. PRN staff work under the coordination of the Master Schedule and may be assigned to any RRSI residential or supervised living program based on organizational needs. Position Classification PRN / Part-Time Non-Exempt Flexible Schedule Reports to the Program Supervisor Coordinates with the Master Scheduler Compensation $18.00 per hour base wage $1.50 per hour shift differential for hours worked between 4:00 PM and 7:00 AM $20 PRN Shift Incentive for each shift coordinated and agreed upon with the Staffing Coordinator and worked during the applicable pay period The PRN Shift Incentive is designed to reward flexibility, improve staffing responsiveness, and reduce overtime utilization. Purpose of the Position The PRN DSP position is intended to: Provide staffing support during employee callouts Assist with planned PTO coverage Fill temporary staffing vacancies Support weekend and holiday operations Reduce overtime utilization Support community outings and activities Strengthen staffing flexibility across programs Essential Duties and Responsibilities In addition to the essential functions of a Direct Support Professional, the PRN DSP will: Provide quality direct support services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities Promote independence, dignity, and community inclusion Assist with activities of daily living Support community participation, appointments, and recreational activities Administer medications as trained and authorized Complete required documentation accurately and timely Follow all agency policies and procedures Adapt to different residential settings and staffing assignments Availability Expectations To remain an active member of the PRN Pool, employees must: Work a minimum of two (2) shifts per month Maintain flexibility to accept shifts as organizational needs arise Maintain updated contact information with the Staffing Coordinator Respond to staffing requests in a timely manner Honor shifts that have been accepted Available shifts may include: Morning shifts Mid shifts Evening shifts Overnight shifts (10:00 PM - 8:00 AM or 9:00 PM - 7:00 AM) Weekend assignments Holiday assignments Work Assignment Expectations PRN DSP staff understand that: Assignments may vary from week to week They may be scheduled to work in any RRSI residential or supervised living program Flexibility is an essential function of this position Staffing assignments will be coordinated through the Master Scheduler PRN Pool Expectations PRN employees are expected to: Maintain a professional attendance record Remain current with all required agency training Maintain required certifications Complete any client-specific training requirements Participate in required agency seminars and educational opportunities Demonstrate professionalism and teamwork when accepting assignments Failure to maintain training compliance or reliability standards may affect continued participation in the PRN Pool. Staffing Coordination Process The Master Scheduler will oversee PRN staffing assignments. When staffing needs arise, the Master Scheduler will: Review staffing needs Contact available PRN staff Coordinate and confirm shift assignments Document staffing commitments Track PRN responsiveness and participation Reliability Standards The success of the PRN Pool depends upon dependability and responsiveness.
The Staffing Coordinator will monitor:
Shift acceptance rates Attendance and punctuality Responsiveness to staffing requests Training compliance Overall reliability PRN staff who consistently fail to respond to staffing requests, repeatedly cancel accepted shifts, or fail to maintain training requirements may be removed from the active PRN Pool. Employees may voluntarily withdraw from the PRN Pool at any time and are encouraged to provide reasonable notice whenever possible. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Experience in human services, healthcare, caregiving, or residential services preferred Valid Virginia driver's license with an acceptable driving record Ability to safely transport individuals when required Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities Medication Aide certification or willingness to obtain Experience with electronic documentation systems Demonstrated flexibility, maturity, and reliability Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to adapt to changing work environments Strong problem-solving skills Commitment to person-centered services Professional judgment and maturity Ability to establish positive relationships with individuals served and coworkers Strong communication and teamwork skills Physical Requirements The employee must be able to: Stand and walk for extended periods Assist with transfers and mobility support as needed Lift, push, pull, or move up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation Bend, stoop, kneel, and reach Participate in community activities and outings Safely operate agency vehicles Additional Requirements The successful candidate must be able to: Pass state and federal criminal background checks Pass the Virginia Child Abuse and Neglect Registry screening Complete and maintain required TB screening Maintain CPR/First Aid/AED certification Maintain all required agency training Meet all DBHDS and RRSI employment requirements Why Join the
