Employment Type Part Time Location Placer High School Job Summary Job Summary Ceramics Lab Technician:
The position will be covered with a stipend under the Specialist 1 category receiving the highest amount for that role = $2000 per section of ceramics that we are supporting. (This means that the person we hire for 26/27 will be paid $2000/section per term. Fall = $4000 and Spring = $6000). Days/Hours
  • TBD Kiln Operation & Maintenance
  • Manage the loading and unloading of student work in kilns to ensure optimal firing capacity and minimize breakage.
  • Operate and program Skutt Kilns for both bisque and glaze firings.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on Skutt Kilns, including the diagnosis and replacement of elements/coils, relays, and thermocouples.
  • Maintain kiln furniture, including scraping, grinding, and kiln-washing shelves, and make cookies for glaze overflow. Glaze & Materials Management
  • Mix commercial dry "cake mix" glazes to correct consistencies for both brushing and dipping applications.
  • Check glaze specific gravity regularly using a hydrometer and make necessary water or flocculant/deflocculant adjustments to maintain ideal viscosity and suspension.
  • Monitor inventory levels for dry materials, clay bodies, tools, and studio chemicals.
  • Support the purchasing of supplies and coordinate deliveries with vendors in collaboration with the Art Department Chair. Equipment & Studio Maintenance
  • Operate and maintain the studio pug mill to process scrap clay.
  • Manage the comprehensive clay recycling system to minimize waste and ensure a steady supply of reclaimed clay for student use.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on all pottery wheels (e.g., adjusting belts, replacing switches, tightening splash pans).
  • Wash and sanitize student aprons and studio towels on a regular schedule.
  • Conduct general studio maintenance, including cleaning sinks, maintaining clay traps, and ensuring proper ventilation. Classroom Support & Safety
