This temporary position is responsible for preparing grapevine cane samples for nucleic acid extraction workflows by following established laboratory procedures and quality standards. The ideal candidate will be dependable, able to follow detailed instructions, and committed to maintaining accuracy and consistency in a fast-paced environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following: Prepare grapevine cane samples by shaving, cutting, and processing plant material according to established procedures. Label, organize, and track samples to maintain sample integrity throughout the preparation process. Follow standardized protocols for preparing samples for nucleic acid extraction and laboratory analysis. Accurately document sample preparation activities and maintain required records. Maintain a clean, organized, and contamination-free work environment. Follow all laboratory safety procedures, policies, and quality control standards. Identify and communicate any issues, discrepancies, or deviations from established procedures to supervisors. Work efficiently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Perform other duties as assigned to support laboratory operations. Required Qualifications Ability to read, understand, and follow detailed written and verbal instructions. Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. Good manual dexterity and ability to perform repetitive tasks with consistency. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Ability to work independently after training while maintaining productivity and quality standards. Comfortable handling plant material and performing repetitive sample preparation tasks. Preferred Qualifications Previous laboratory experience in biological, agricultural, plant science, or molecular biology settings. Familiarity with sample handling procedures and laboratory protocols. Experience working in a high-volume or fast-paced laboratory environment. Coursework or education in biology, agriculture, plant science, or a related field is a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Ability to use hands and fingers for repetitive fine motor tasks. Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail throughout repetitive work processes. Work Environment Laboratory environment with exposure to plant materials and laboratory equipment. Work requires repetitive sample preparation activities requiring consistency and accuracy. Training will be provided; candidates must demonstrate the ability to learn procedures quickly and adapt to changing priorities. Must be able to maintain quality standards and productivity throughout the duration of the assignment.
