The Lab Technician serves as a collaborative member of the Finishing team and supports departmental initiatives aimed at improving quality, safety, efficiency, and productivity within the manufacturing environment. This individual is a highly motivated self-starter who can prioritize tasks, take ownership of responsibilities, and work hands-on to resolve production-related issues. The Lab Technician will manage the day-to-day operation of the Finishing Lab while supporting production and process improvement activities. Essential Duties:
Ensure smooth and efficient operation of the laboratory, including maintaining equipment, instruments, and facilities Develop and implement laboratory policies and procedures Maintain accurate records and documentation of testing, procedures, and results Maintain chemical inventory and confirm laboratory/storage inventory as required Perform analytical testing of processing solutions and physical testing for metal finishing applications Evaluate coating performance including adhesion strength, hardness, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance Accurately report chemical analysis and testing results to Finishing Manager and Supervisors Perform chemical additions and bath make-ups Maintain accurate and current records regarding production floor baths Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on lab equipment, chemical controllers, pumps, and related systems Perform lab inventory and identify chemicals and equipment requiring replenishment Assist in writing departmental instructions and procedures Operate all departmental equipment effectively Follow all safety procedures when handling chemicals and hazardous waste Maintain a safe, neat, and organized work environment Utilize all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Perform additional duties and assignments as directed by management Qualifications:
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English Excellent knowledge of process chemistry Strong attention to detail Ability to work in a production environment with varying temperatures, wet conditions, noise, fumes, irritants, and chemical exposure Ability to assess tank concentrations and mathematically determine proper chemical additions Ability to read and understand SDS documentation Strong organizational and multitasking skills Proficient in data entry, Microsoft Word, and Excel Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment Preferred:
Bilingual in Spanish Previous experience in metal finishing, plating, chemical processing, or manufacturing laboratory environments Experience troubleshooting laboratory or production equipment Benefits:
