Job Description

SUMMARY Tissue Bank Lab Associates are responsible for receiving and accessioning biospecimen shipments arriving at our South San Francisco office. They will be responsible for physically receiving and checking human biospecimens, determining and organizing their storage, accessioning them into the inventory database, submitting them for processing or relabeling when appropriate, and aiding in their distribution for internal and/or custom projects. Additional duties will include helping to maintain the cleanliness of the lab and the various equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Receiving human biospecimen samples (HBS) and checking shipment lists/manifests. Will include handling of dry ice and liquid nitrogen for frozen samples. Accession samples into the Tissue Bank (TB) inventory database and maintain integrity, including performing periodic specimen location checks, data verifications, and updating the database accordingly. This may include communicating with the collection site personnel for verification/clarification of provided data.
Perform HBS processing as needed:
fresh tissue grossing, digital pathology tasks, and scanning of slides. Ensure high quality of the results and adherence to company SOPs Help in performing routine maintenance/cleaning of lab freezers and other equipment. Assist in administrative duties as necessary, including ordering the TB supplies and laboratory reagents. Maintains a safe work environment following approved safety practices in the work area. Keeps the workplace clean and free from clutter. Cleans up after completion of work. Maintains attendance and punctuality within company guidelines. Functions well as a team member in facilitating biorepository workflow. May perform other related duties as required and/or assigned. Ability and willingness to act in accordance with regulatory compliance requirements, including but not limited to quality system requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE 1
to 2 years of experience in the biotech industry is recommended but not required. Familiarity with basic lab setting and PPE usage.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS N/A SKILLS REQUIRED
LANGUAGE SKILLS Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and MS Outlook), preferably strong Excel skills. Ability to work with individuals at all levels in an organization. Manages execution of and prioritizes multiple tasks. Shows initiative and maintains ownership. Drives for results. Attention to detail.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use their hands to finger, handle, or feel. Extensive computer keyboard and mouse use. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms, and may be required to lift to 50 lbs. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Legally permissible exposure to chemicals and hazardous materials.
