Job Description
The Temporary Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for performing a variety of laboratory and field analyses, collect samples, and input data into a computer. May perform related work as required. This is a non-exempt Temporary/Seasonal position limited to 1300 hours annually. This job description is an overview and is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It's not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the functions and tasks required of the position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
Collect water, sewage, sludge and industrial waste samples. Perform field tests for pH, DO, ORP, conductivity, and temperature. Filter and preserve samples. Enter data into a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Fill out forms such as Chain of Custody (COC). Conduct basic laboratory tests such as pH and solids.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
In order to perform the essential job duties with or without a reasonable accommodation include, but are not limited to: Heavy lifting of up to 50 pounds. Ability to remove manhole covers. Walking and standing for extended time periods. Hearing/listening required to communicate with employees and customers Perform a full range of body movements and manual dexterity to set up and operate laboratory equipment; maintain and adjust laboratory equipment; transfer solids and liquids quantitatively and without spillage or contamination; perform work on a computer; and perform other essential functions. Ability to learn to conduct basic laboratory tests on water, sewage, sludges and industrial samples. Knowledge of and ability to work with spreadsheets, and word processing such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to complete forms and keep accurate records. Ability to perform all job duties in a safe manner. One-year of experience with Microsoft Office; A High School diploma or its G.E.D. equivalent; A valid driver's license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of employment License restrictions that may hinder your ability to drive on City business, such as an interlock, will be cause for disqualification During the course of employment, a valid license must be maintained, and the employee must notify the City immediately upon changes to the status of their license

Background in biology, chemistry or related field
