Job Title:
Polysomnographic Technologist Position Overview We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Polysomnographic Technologist to join our Sleep Medicine team. In this role, you will play a vital part in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders by conducting high-quality overnight polysomnography studies. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, patient-focused, and experienced in monitoring, scoring, and troubleshooting sleep studies while adhering to AASM guidelines and physician protocols. Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Study Preparation Prepare patients for overnight polysomnography (PSG) studies by explaining procedures, ensuring comfort, and addressing questions or concerns. Apply EEG electrodes using the international 10-20 system, along with EOG, EMG, ECG, airflow, respiratory effort, and oximetry sensors. Study Monitoring & Intervention Continuously monitor patients throughout sleep studies, documenting sleep stages, physiological parameters, and clinical events in real time. Perform CPAP/BiPAP titration studies in accordance with physician orders and AASM guidelines. Identify and troubleshoot technical, equipment, and signal-quality issues during studies to ensure optimal data collection. Scoring & Documentation Score sleep studies in compliance with AASM scoring criteria, including sleep stages, arousals, respiratory events, limb movements, and cardiac events. Prepare completed and accurately documented studies for physician interpretation and review. Lab Operations & Equipment Management Maintain sleep laboratory equipment and supplies, ensuring proper functionality, cleanliness, and compliance with safety and infection-control standards. Uphold a safe, professional, and patient-centered sleep lab environment. Essential Skills & Competencies Demonstrated ability to accurately score polysomnography studies. Proficiency with EPIC electronic medical record software. Strong attention to detail, troubleshooting ability, and commitment to patient safety and comfort. Education, Certification & Experience High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited sleep technology program preferred. Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certification preferred; registry-eligible candidates welcomed (certification required within one year of hire). Current
BLS / CPR
certification required. Work Schedule & Environment Standard shifts with start times at 8:00 AM, 9:00 AM, or 10:00 AM , consisting of an 8-hour workday. Testing days require a 7:30 AM start time . Work is performed in a clinical sleep laboratory setting with a strong emphasis on teamwork, quality care, and professional excellence. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fairfield, CT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $50.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
