Job Description:
  • Participates in laboratory and hospital performance improvement activities, including evaluating new equipment and procedures.
Adheres to all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, protecting patient information confidentiality. Follows safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling, and demonstrates understanding of the Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies. Transports hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area, completing initial and refresher training for proper handling and disposal. May act as preceptor in new employee or student training and orientation.
  • Answers the telephone and performs clerical and receptionist duties to support department operations.
  • Performs post-analytical activities including reporting results and providing technical and support information for all age groups.
  • Provides resolution to customer service issues within guidelines and supports education for clinical staff as appropriate or requested.
  • Performs pre-analytical activities including equipment maintenance, function checks, inventory control, specimen collection, biological specimen processing, cleaning and disinfection, quality control, and calibration.
  • Conducts all expected tests and analytical procedures efficiently and accurately according to hospital procedures, performance standards, and competency standards.
  • Participates in proficiency testing, adhering to federal and state regulations as well as hospital policies.
  • Maintains workspaces in a neat, organized, and properly supplied manner, storing and safeguarding documentation and paperwork.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Exhibits technical skills and aptitudes related to the laboratory testing, procedures and processes performed in department or work area assigned [Required]
  • Able to effectively communicate in verbal and written English with patients, staff, partners and customers of varied backgrounds in a respectful, effective, and professional manner [Required]
  • Reads text and numbers in English, and displays the ability to comprehend, measure, reason, match, problem solve, under supervision [Required]
  • Apply accurately learned computer related applications and programs, including using electronic keyboards and other peripheral devices [Required]
  • Exercises clinical judgment and the ability to handle confidential information within hospital guidelines and applicable regulations [Required]
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office [Required]
  • Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English [Required]
Education:
  • Associate [Required]
Field of Study:
  • in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution OR Successful completion of at least a 50-week official US military medical laboratory procedures training course and currently hold or have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician); or qualified and served as high complexity testing personnel on or before April 24, 1995 in a CLIA-certified laboratory as of December 28, 2024, and have done so continuously since December 28, 2024.

  • 5+ years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting [Required]
  • 2+ years of experience in AdventHealth Lab [Preferred]

    Pay Range:
