Job Description

Overview SNF is a specialty chemical group whose products, water-soluble polymers, contribute to treating, recycling, preserving water, saving energy, and reducing carbon footprint. A pioneer in soft chemistry, SNF has long been present on all continents, employing 9,000 people, including more than 2,700+ in the USA. Innovation and movement toward a cleaner, less carbon-intensive world accelerates SNF's growth. The primary purpose of this position is to perform basic quality tests on the finished product before it is submitted to the quality control lab and also to measure out additives for the polymerization process and to test various small package samples. This is an hourly, full-time, and rotating shift position. Responsibilities Understand lab procedures and responsibilities as outlined in the emulsion lab training checklist. Perform the UL viscosity and inversion/invertibility tests for in-process standard emulsions under a two-hour time frame. Perform special tests for specific products such as the viscosity over time test for drag reduction products, and caustic water inversions for alumina products. Read, understand, and fill out QC analysis sheets. Understand product names and product differences. Utilize various databases and input results. Perform basic housekeeping duties and fill out the housekeeping checklist. Utilize, maintain, and calibrate various lab instruments including viscometers, pH meters, and balances. Correctly weigh, bag, and label additives. Understand the hazards of a chemical from its MSDS. Obtain supplies, packaging materials, and labels as needed for the lab. Perform quality tests for emulsion and dewatered products which are classified as small packages. Properly track and record small package samples that fail analysis. Notify supervisors of any out-of-spec samples or other problems. Comply with all environmental regulations including using proper waste disposal methods. Inspect and maintain the work area for safety and cleanliness. Comply with all safety standards and rules, as set by management, including selecting and using the correct personal protective gear. Understand and follow the emergency shutdown and evacuation procedure. Understand and utilize basic chemistry such as pH ranges, unit conversion, and making up different concentrations of solutions. Complete other routine and non-routine jobs as directed by management. Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree - Bachelor's Degree of Science. Biology or Chemistry is preferred. 0-3 Years - In a laboratory environment Knowledge of Analytical Chemistry preferred. Ability to multi-task. Strong communication skills. Ability to motivate, prioritize, and organize in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment. Ability to address issues, follow up, and implement solutions as required.
