Evening Shift Description:
Performs high complexity tissue grossing in the surgical pathology area and assists with autopsies. Under the direction of a pathologist or pathologist's assistant, performs gross description and specimen dissection of simple surgical specimens and prepares/fixes semi-complex surgical specimens. Processes cytology specimens under supervision of cytotechnologists. Performs instrument maintenance according to established protocols. Assists pathologist and pathologist's assistants in performance of autopsies, and frozen sections. Responsible for the maintenance and functionality of the morgue. Registers patients in Atlas system and accessions cases in Cerner. Identifies and logs specimens with incorrect, discrepant, or missing information, and resolves in partnership with the resolution department. Monitor pending logs and resolve outstanding orders in a timely manner. Discards surgical tissue according to policy. Files slides and blocks. Assists with training new employees. Maintains supply inventories. Supports and utilizes LEAN principles and standard work.
Schedule:
Evening shift 12:30pm - 9:00pm; no weekends or holidays
General Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in a science-related field OR education equivalent that includes the following: 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 hours of biology and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination. Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills required. Good hand-eye coordination. Working knowledge of basic medical terminology.
