Job Title:
Lab Technician - Flavor Compounding Job Description The Lab Technician supports the Flavor Creation and Applications teams by accurately compounding flavor samples for trial runs, customer requests, and application testing. This role maintains the flavor creation laboratory, manages raw material inventory, and ensures that all compounded samples meet established quality and company standards. The position is ideal for someone with strong lab skills, solid math abilities, and experience weighing and handling ingredients in a laboratory or similar environment. Responsibilities Compound flavor samples for the Flavor Creation and Applications groups to support revision trial runs and application testing. Prepare compounded flavor samples for customers in line with company standards and quality requirements. Accurately weigh ingredients using laboratory scales and ensure precise measurements for all formulations. Read, interpret, and follow recipe instructions and formulation sheets with close attention to detail. Organize and maintain the raw material library, ensuring all materials are properly labeled, stored, and easily accessible. Perform general lab maintenance, including cleaning and organizing work areas to maintain a safe and efficient laboratory environment. Monitor and maintain supply stock levels for the flavor creation lab, including consumables and raw materials. Take care of miscellaneous inventories within the lab area, ensuring accurate tracking and documentation. Assist in inventory control activities, including stock checks and reconciliation of materials used in compounding. Issue purchase orders (POs) for lab supply inventory as needed to ensure continuous availability of materials. Assist flavorists with simple applications work as requested, supporting the preparation of samples and trial products. Perform scale calibration and verify that measuring equipment is functioning correctly to maintain accuracy and consistency. Apply basic chemistry and compounding principles to ensure correct preparation and handling of flavor materials. Follow all lab protocols, safety procedures, and documentation requirements while performing daily tasks. Essential Skills Demonstrated laboratory skills, including handling lab equipment and following standard lab procedures. Ability to accurately weigh ingredients using a scale and maintain precise measurements. Strong math skills, including the ability to perform conversions and calculate percentages. Experience with compounding or preparing mixtures, preferably in a laboratory, chemistry, or flavor-related environment. Ability to read, understand, and follow detailed recipe instructions and formulations. Basic understanding of chemistry concepts relevant to laboratory work and compounding. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of lab work and documentation. Organizational skills to maintain a well-ordered raw material library and lab inventory. Capability to perform routine equipment checks, including scale calibration and verification. Reliability and consistency in following company standards, lab protocols, and safety practices. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate degree preferred, ideally in a scientific, technical, or related field. Previous experience in a flavor, food, or chemical lab environment is beneficial. Familiarity with inventory control processes and issuing purchase orders is an advantage. Comfort working with formulations and recipes in a production or laboratory setting. Willingness to learn from flavorists and support simple application tasks as needed. Strong communication skills to work effectively with the Flavor Creation and Applications teams. Work Environment This is a laboratory-based role working Monday through Friday, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The position operates in a lab setting focused on flavor creation and applications, where you will regularly use scales, measuring devices, and standard lab equipment. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety and quality procedures. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity, offering the potential to transition into a longer-term role based on performance and business needs. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hoffman Estates, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
