Job Description

Pay rate: $18.72 - $19.28 an hour, depending on experience and qualifications Position Summary The Clinical Immunology Laboratory in the Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science invites applications for a part-time Research Technician. This is a part time position scheduled to work approximately 22.5 hours per week. Part-time staff who work at least 18.5 hours a week are eligible for up to 15 prorated days of vacation / personal leave, 15 pro-rated sick days, and 9 holidays (if regularly scheduled to work on a University holiday), winter break, plus 2 floating holidays. Our unique interprofessional education model allows students to learn from and with each other in a variety of settings, including our simulation labs, the student-led Interprofessional Community Clinic, and through partnerships with area hospitals and clinics. RFU is a national leader in interprofessional research and practices, and is nationally recognized for its research in areas including neuroscience, brain-related diseases, inherited disorders, proteomics, cancer cell biology and immunology, and gait and balance Essential Duties & Responsibilities Performs various research laboratory tests and tasks under the direction of senior laboratory personnel for the study of reproduction, immunology and cancer biology. These include cell culture, laboratory animals care and common laboratory techniques such as PCR, western blots, flow cytometry, and EIA. Determines the acceptability of clinical specimens (body fluids, tissue biopsies) received by the laboratory for research, and clinical testing per CLIA requirements. Follows the laboratory s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records. Performs quality control and other quality assurance activities to verify performance of research and clinical assays. Maintains a safe, clean and secure working environment by complying with procedures, CLIA, HIPAA, and OSHA regulations. Reports accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care. Maintains laboratory supplies by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Contributes to research and development of new laboratory techniques followed by establishment of SOP under supervision of senior laboratory personnel. Participates in research presentations and drafting of scientific manuscripts. Conditions of Employment Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check. Required Education & Experience Bachelor s degree in a chemical, physical or biological science or medical lab Technology. Must receive satisfactory results from a background check. Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Computer literate. Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to read, write, speak, hear and comprehend the English language. Ability to work/interact with diverse populations. Show respect and sensitivity for cultural differences. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Handle detailed job tasks with accuracy and efficiency. Ability to exhibit sound/accurate judgment. Preferred Qualifications Laboratory research experience. Clinical laboratory experience preferred.
