About Us Midwest Urological Group is a busy urology practice serving patients throughout Central Illinois. We are looking for a dependable and detail-oriented Lab Assistant to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with patients, has strong attention to detail, and is comfortable performing both clinical and administrative lab duties in a medical office setting. Position Summary The Lab Technician / Lab Assistant is responsible for collecting and processing patient specimens, performing pre-testing for upcoming office visits and procedures, maintaining lab equipment, documenting results, and assisting with the daily operations of the lab. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, comfortable with patient interaction, and able to follow lab procedures accurately and consistently. Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Perform phlebotomy for scheduled labs, pre-testing, and hard-stick patients Collect, process, and test specimens Perform pre-testing for patients with upcoming office visits, procedures, or surgeries Perform EKGs as needed Process in-house lab testing Prepare and send out specimens, including blood samples, urine cultures, cytologies, stones, 24-hour urine collections, and other specialty testing Transmit results to the appropriate medical facility or provider Retrieve missing lab results from hospitals or outside facilities Log all completed and sent-out lab work Enter and verify patient information in Greenway, including insurance, billing information, appointment information, charges, and diagnosis codes Maintain accurate documentation of lab activity and results Dispose of biohazard materials and sharps containers according to safety standards Maintain daily lab schedules and track add-on testing Keep lab rooms, pre-testing areas, chairs, and supplies stocked and organized Communicate professionally with patients, physicians, and staff Perform additional duties as assigned Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Phlebotomy experience preferred Medical office or clinical experience preferred Preferred Skills & Experience Experience drawing blood and working with patient specimens Moderate knowledge of medical terminology Familiarity with lab safety procedures and specimen handling Experience using an electronic medical record system preferred Comfortable learning new software systems, including EMR and pulling labs from different outsourced systems Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to communicate clearly and courteously with patients and staff Ability to work independently and as part of a team Work Environment This position is performed in a medical office lab setting. The role involves regular patient interaction, specimen handling, use of lab equipment, and communication with physicians and office staff. The position may require managing multiple tasks at once and responding to changing daily lab needs. Physical Requirements This role requires eye-hand coordination, finger dexterity, computer use, and the ability to view computer screens for extended periods. The position may involve standing, sitting, bending, reaching, and handling lab supplies or specimens. Schedule Full-time. Schedule details can be discussed during the interview process.
