Job Description:
Job Summary We are currently seeking a full-time, on-site, Laboratory Technician in the Department of Biological Sciences. This position will be responsible for preparing materials for a variety of teaching labs. The pay for this position is $21.00 hourly.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Prepare laboratory materials for classes in microbiology, genetics, cell biology, and molecular biology
  • Serve as the department's Designated Trained Individual (DTI) to ensure laboratory safety compliance and assist with chemical waste management.
  • Long-term culturing and maintenance of stock microbiological cultures.
  • Prepare laboratory media and materials for instructional use
  • Supervise and train graduate teaching assistants that assist with classroom laboratory preparation.
  • Assist the Manager of Life Sciences Support Services with departmental tasks as deemed necessary.
Required Qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related discipline.
  • 3 years experience in biological science laboratory protocols.
  • Able to culture cells, tissues, and organisms including media preparation.
  • Experienced with the disposal of biological and chemical waste.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience with molecular biology techniques.
  • Able to supervise and train graduate teaching assistants
  • Instructional experience with undergraduate students.
  • Able to regularly maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Able to maintain good interpersonal skills to assist faculty, staff, and students with laboratory prep and safety.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledgeable in laboratory safety regulations.
