Job Description The DNA Sequencing Technician supports high-throughput Sanger and Oxford Nanopore sequencing operations by processing DNA samples, preparing sequencing reactions and libraries, operating sequencing instruments, and maintaining accurate quality documentation. This role requires strong attention to detail, consistent adherence to laboratory procedures, and the ability to work efficiently to meet quality and turnaround time goals in a production laboratory environment. Responsibilities Process DNA samples accurately and efficiently, following established laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures. Perform DNA extraction, PCR setup and amplification, and DNA quantification to support sequencing workflows. Prepare sequencing reactions and libraries for Sanger and Oxford Nanopore sequencing platforms. Operate and monitor sequencing instruments, including ABI 3730xl, Oxford Nanopore sequencers, thermocyclers, and centrifuges, ensuring proper run setup and completion.. Essential Skills Basic laboratory knowledge, including familiarity with standard molecular biology techniques. Ability to perform accurate pipetting, sample preparation, and basic quality control checks. Understanding of sequencing workflows and library preparation for Sanger and Oxford Nanopore technologies, or the ability to learn these techniques quickly. Willingness and ability to work a Tuesday-Saturday schedule from 4:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Good work ethic, reliability, and a strong sense of responsibility for quality and turnaround time. 0-2 years of molecular biology or sequencing laboratory experience, or equivalent strong academic lab background. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior hands-on experience in a molecular biology or DNA sequencing laboratory (0-2 years) is preferred but not required for strong entry-level candidates. Experience in a production or testing laboratory environment is a plus. Familiarity with operating instruments such as ABI 3730xl sequencers, Oxford Nanopore sequencers, thermocyclers, and centrifuges is preferred but trainable. Experience working in a regulated laboratory environment and maintaining audit-ready documentation is preferred. Demonstrated ability to maintain strong data integrity and follow documentation best practices. Interest in growing into more advanced roles, including potential lab lead or supervisory positions, over time. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Louisville, KY.
