Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Specimen Accessioner to join our laboratory team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the accurate and efficient processing of biological and clinical specimens, ensuring proper documentation, labeling, and handling in accordance with laboratory standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in laboratory management, specimen collection and processing techniques, and relevant medical or veterinary terminology. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to high-quality diagnostic services within a fast-paced healthcare or research environment, supporting patient care and scientific advancement. Responsibilities Receive, log, and accession specimens into the laboratory information system with precision and timeliness. Verify specimen labels for accuracy, completeness, and proper identification to prevent errors. Ensure specimens are handled following aseptic techniques and laboratory safety protocols. Prepare specimens for analysis by performing appropriate processing procedures, including centrifugation or aliquoting as necessary. Maintain detailed records of specimen collection, processing steps, and storage conditions to ensure traceability. Collaborate with clinical staff or research teams to clarify specimen requirements and resolve discrepancies. Follow established laboratory procedures for specimen preservation, storage, and disposal in compliance with regulatory standards. Assist in maintaining laboratory inventory of supplies related to specimen handling and processing. Support quality assurance activities by adhering to protocols for specimen integrity and documentation accuracy. Demonstrate knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and relevant medical or veterinary terminology to accurately interpret specimen data. Experience High School DIploma/ GED - required
