Full Job Description Advanced BGA Rework Lab Technician Advanced BGA Rework Lab Technician Position Overview Role Type:
Part-Time /
Contract Hours:
20-30 hours per week (Flexible scheduling available)
Duration:
6 months with extension possible We are seeking a highly specialized Lab Technician for a part-time contract role. This position is ideal for a precision soldering expert who thrives in a high-tech R D environment. You will serve as the primary resource for
DRAM BGA
replacements and high-complexity board modifications, providing critical support to our engineering team on an as-needed basis.
Primary Responsibilities Advanced BGA Rework:
Lead the removal, reballing, and replacement of DRAM and SoC components using the Air-Vac DRS25 rework system.
Precision Soldering:
Perform manual rework of fine-pitch SMT components (down to 0201 ), including QFNs, connectors, and passives.
Engineering Modifications:
Execute complex "dead-bug" wiring, trace repairs, and ECO (Engineering Change Order) implementations.
Profile Optimization:
Maintain and create thermal profiles for the DRS25 to ensure consistent results across various board geometries.
Documentation:
Maintain a brief log of rework success rates and provide feedback to engineers on board "reworkability" and pad damage.
Technical Requirements Specialized Expertise:
Demonstrated mastery of the Air-Vac DRS25 or similar high-end BGA rework stations.
Industry Standards:
Working knowledge of
IPC-7711/7721
(Rework and Repair) and
IPC-A-610
.
Chemical & Lab Safety:
Deep familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for fluxes (Rosin/No-Clean) and solvents, and strict adherence to ESD protocols.
Microscope Proficiency:
Extensive experience performing high-precision work under a microscope for 4-6 hours at a time.
Contract & Schedule Details Workload:
Consistent 20-30 hours per week.
Flexibility:
We offer a flexible start/end time, provided project deadlines are met.
Location:
On-site at our Andover Lab (This is a hands-on hardware role and cannot be performed remotely).
Key Competencies Efficiency:
Ability to manage a queue of rework tasks independently with minimal supervision.
Quality First:
A "first-time-right" mentality, especially when working on one-of-a-kind prototype boards.
Clear Communication:
Ability to update engineering teams on the status of high-priority repairs via email or ticketing systems.
