Culinary Lab Assistant DEPARTMENT

REPORTS TO:
Associate Professor of Culinary Arts
POSITION STATUS
This is a part-time, non-unit position without benefits, not to exceed 18.5 hours per week
SALARY:
$20.79/hr
STATEMENT OF DUTIES
A culinary laboratory assistant (lab aid) is a professional cook who helps in preparing instructional materials used during kitchen laboratory work. A culinary lab aid assists in the day-to-day operations of the culinary kitchen following the procedure set forth by Bristol Community College's Culinary Arts Department Chair.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare recipes used as instructional materials or culinary functions
Set-up any kitchen equipment needed for recipe preparations during laboratory or function work
Maintain kitchen organization and cleanliness
Promote sanitation and safety during kitchen laboratory work, ensuring students do not practice any unsafe behavior
Assist in the instruction of kitchen laboratory work under instructor's supervision
Conduct and maintain food inventory
Assist in administrative duties including: ordering supplies, running errands, filing documents, answering the phone, coordinate equipment maintenance, prepare RFE's and other day-to-day operation tasks
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must have completed the first year of the Culinary or Baking and Pastry program at Bristol Community College or earned an Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts from an accredited institution.
Ability to work as a team to achieve a common goal
Ability to maintain the food quality and integrity
Must be able to compute basic mathematical calculations
Ability to execute all basic cooking methods
Must be able to work a flexible schedule
Must be able to safely lift a weight of 50 pounds or more
