PM SUMMARY:
General rotating MLS/MLT to work in all clinical laboratory areas performing a wide array of laboratory procedures, exercising independent judgment, participating in QC, correlation studies, special projects, and specimen collection. Works with supervisors and coworkers to ensure accurate, timely patient testing.

LEARNING WHAT YOU\'LL DO
  • Conduct friendly, courteous, and respectful interactions with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
  • Perform specimen collection, venipuncture and capillary punctures as needed; evaluate specimen acceptability.
  • Analyze patient and proficiency samples; prioritize routine, urgent, and STAT testing.
  • Perform, evaluate, and troubleshoot quality control and analyzer maintenance; notify supervisor of malfunctions.
  • Report abnormal results to clinicians and communicate relevant patient information to care teams.
  • Enter and edit orders in the laboratory information system and maintain accurate records and billing information.
  • Participate in development and validation of new testing protocols and maintain documentation and policies.
  • Train and orient new employees and students; participate in educational activities.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and regulatory-compliant laboratory environment and adhere to hand hygiene and safety policies.
  • Assist supervisors with departmental duties and participate in special projects and cost-benefit analyses.
REQUIREMENTS, WHAT YOU BRING
  • Medical Laboratory Technician
  • Associate\'s degree in science and clinical training in an approved MLT program (or equivalent). ASCP registration preferred. Medical Laboratory Scientist
  • Baccalaureate degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or major in chemical/physical/biological science with approved clinical training or documented lab training (minimum three months per specialty) and preferred registration (ASCP, AAB, HEW, or AMT). OR Associate degree plus required training and registration as MLS/MT through ASCP, AAB, HEW, or AMT.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, verbally and in writing; additional languages preferred.
  • Basic computer proficiency and competency operating photometer, spectrograph, colorimeter, and microscope.
  • Self-motivated, conscientious, patient-care oriented, and attuned to hospital operations.
PHYSICAL AND BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS
  • Exert up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently; frequent reaching, handling, and color discrimination; occasional use of depth perception.
